About Us

Our Inception

The Pittsburg Historical Society was officially recognized as an organization on October 18, 1961. It was formed by members of Pittsburg's early pioneer families. They were concerned that without the preservation of memorabilia, the history of this area would fade and pass without records.

The first public display was a collection of photographs which were exhibited at Klein's department store at 5th and Railroad. It was a two-day event which spurred others to donate photos and artifacts. The society grew and soon looked for a permanent location to display the historical treasures they had collected.
